Speller Extraordinaire
Here she is. Our big girl! She finished 8th out of 18 (I think) 1st and 2nd graders. She and her friend Maggie were the only 2 1st graders left standing at that point. She had some Diet Coke before the Bee, because I remember that in high school Mark and I read somewhere that a little caffeine on board sharpens the mind. Little did she know. She thought she was just getting a treat. Ha. She was the shortest one up there and had trouble reaching the microphone and had to stand on her tiptoes. Other kids knew how to angle it downward but she didn't. I think that may have distracted her a little. She did wonderfully though. The word that tripped her up was ADAPT. She missed the 'P'. We are so proud of her and are already looking forward to next year when she will be the 2nd grader up against the 1st graders this time. What a great experience! I think we will reward her with a trip to The Melting Pot for cheese and chocolate anyway.

Congratulations!! We're so proud of her! She looks so calm...I would have been freaking out. I love the idea of the coke...I learned that from my nursing professor in college! So funny...I bet she never suspected a thing!
