Annie had a great day at school Wednesday. She looked so adorable in her uniform and said she really liked wearing it. She said her favorite part of her day was a nature walk and a game of "Simon Says". Mark termed it "an expensive nature walk". She enjoyed show and tell and said that everyone clapped for her. She brought a ballet skirt, a book and a cookie cutter and had to tell about each one and why she chose it. She is not very talkative about the whole experience but we get tidbits of information here and there. There were originally 5 children in her class - 4 boys and Annie but a little girl joined the class at the last minute. Yay!!!
On another note, the carpool was unbelievable. The school is in a new location this year at a brand new church so it was a new experience for everyone including the poor traffic officer working at the elementary school directly across the street. The parents at our school completely blocked the road trying to get into the parking lot. Believe it or not there are quite a number of children who attend the school. Hopefully it will get better. This is a picture of the front of the church. It isn't much bigger than that except for a basement area where most of the classes are held.
We are headed to Zoo Atlanta tomorrow as a family. Mark has the day off so we are having "Anderson Family Fun Day" as Annie likes to call it. We will post some pictures later.
Well, it's finally begun. Day 1 of homeschool went well. Annie's math class started at 9:30 and she really seemed to enjoy her class, teacher and new friends or maybe it was the tootsie roll pop she received at the end. Getting to the math class did not go so well. To start off the torrential rains from Fay are here and have been here since late yesterday. The downpour was coupled with tornado warnings and an ominous sky as we started our journey this morning. About 2 minutes into our trip Annie said, "Mom, you can't see to drive." I said, "Yes, honey. Mommy can see even when it's raining hard outside." About 15 minutes into our trip I noticed a stop light was out.....too late. I rear ended what appeared to be a University of Alabama college student who actually happened to be very nice despite her bad choice in educational facilities. We exchanged info and were on our way. Annie then said, "See Mom. I told you that you couldn't see to drive."
I had somewhat of an attack on the remainder of our journey and thought an ambulance was needed at one point. It felt like a gallbladder attack (not possible since I don't own one) or a heart attack. It finally subsided once I got out of the vehicle.
With Annie safely in class, Ella and I did what any two girls would and headed to the mall. She played for a while on the indoor playground and had a ball. We returned to get Annie and then met Jennifer, Christopher, and Caitlyn for a lunch/playdate. In keeping with the theme of the day, I wasn't paying enough attention and busted my rear on her stairs. My heel slipped and I hit one stair then proceeded to hit the next four until finally stopping when my feet hit the floor.
We left their house and rushed home to get ready for dance class. What a day!!! Annie is ready for her day tomorrow. She knows her Bible verse and is ready for show and tell so we will post again soon to let you know how it goes.
Today we decided to have one last play date before school starts. We went to Aunt Mel's and had a great time swimming and playing with Claire. They are all the best of friends - squealing, acting silly and showing off. As always, the word princess was mentioned at least 50 times per hour and much thought was put into who would be which princess for the day. Melody and I were even granted permission to be honorary princesses Jasmine and Belle. We will miss the pool but we can't wait for apple pickin' and pumpkin patch time.
Also, I forgot to tell you Annie's school verse for this week. The part she is to memorize is in bold print. This verse is the Veritas Classical School verse.
Joshua 22:5 "But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to obey His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul."
Annie had her open house last night at her new school. She is attending Veritas Classical School in Alpharetta. They have a brand new campus at a small church. Her teacher is wonderful. She has been teaching kindergarten for 24 years and is great with the children. Annie is in a class full of all boys. She feels right at home considering that her best friends just happen to be boys as well. She already has homework for the week before class and has been busy at work today trying to decide on what to bring to show and tell. We hope to have a great and exciting year. Well, off to dance this evening. Ella's second class went great yesterday. Ms. Maria gave her a sticker which she treasured the entire day until it fell on the floor at wal-mart and got dirty. It was then deemed unworthy of her interest. I guess there's always next week.
It seems like every day we add something to the list of activities for this fall. The girls started their Wednesday night programs last night. Annie is in her first year of Awana Sparks and Ella is in Puggles. They were so excited and had such a great time. Annie played all sorts of games in her new class and was placed in the same group as her best friend Christopher. Ella was jumping up and down on her way to the Puggles room. After we picked her up we asked what she learned about and she told us, "I got crackers!". We asked again if she learned about Jesus and she said, "Yes. And I got crackers!" It will be a fun year teaching them new verses and learning some ourselves. I will try to post the verses they learn each week so you can see their progress. Ella hasn't started learning them yet but we are trying to teach her "God is love".
Annie's verse: "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Well here it is. Our first blog. Today was Ella Rose's first day of dance class. They call it "creative movement" and let me say that teacher had to get creative to get those kids to move the way she wanted them to. Ella was so excited to go. No fussing, no looking back at mom and big sister, just "out of my way, I've got dancing to do people". Several kids left screaming, but not our little trooper. She pretended to ride a pony, be a butterfly, ride the choo choo (which looked to us like a baby conga line) and act like a princess complete with feather duster wand. She thinks she is going back tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see how she reacts while Annie is in her class Tuesday evening. I have a feeling we will be taking a little walk.
